Beast the Lesser
Revelation 13:11-18
There are signs sponsored by Family Radio declaring Christ is coming 5.12.11. B4 we talk about the sign, let’s talk about the person who placed it. Camping (President of Family Radio) also predicted return of Christ in 9.94. Is he a prophet of God?
When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him. Dt. 18:22
Comfort/equip the people to ask questions: YRU worried if the message of the sign is accurate? RU right w/ God?

This 2nd beast of R13, the beast that comes up out of the earth is powerful, but not as powerful as the beast that came out of the sea. He is Beast the Lesser.
His character 11
Jesus: beware of those who come to you in sheep’s clothing. Not a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but a dragon in sheep’s clothing. He looks like Jesus, but he sounds like Satan. 5 words mailmen hear most is: Don’t worry, he doesn’t bite. I understand that it’s the cute ones they really have to watch out for.
The earth is distinguished from the sea – pictures the troubled waves of various peoples/nations out of which the world-powers have emerged. … out of the earth - out of civilized society/unified/ ordered. Seiss Out of sea – an outsider. Out of land – an insider. Sea – forced his way in. Land – promote from within. Possibly, the antichrist looks at his organization/promotes the most loyal man.
His purpose 12
He aids the first beast by serving as his prophet (he is the false prophet. Cf. 19:20; 20:10). PR guy… Religion serving politics - supporting/ advancing claims of the state. Here is religion, not pointing to a transcendent, godly truth, but legitimizing the powers that be w/o prophetically confronting them. Those whose conscience is bothered by claims of the 1st beast will be comforted/soothed by the actions of the 2nd beast. beasty boys
He is the counterfeit of the Holy Spirit. As the Spirit leads us to worship Jesus, the false prophet promotes the worship of the beast.
In the early 1930’s, many Christians w/in Germany had adopted Hitler’s National Socialism as part of their creed. They were known as the German Christians. Their spokesman, Hermann Gruner, made it clear what they stood for: The time is fulfilled for the German people in Hitler…It is because of Hitler that Christ, God the helper and redeemer, has become effective among us. Therefore, Nazism is Christianity in action…Hitler is the way of the Spirit and the will of God for the German people to enter the Church of Christ.
What Gruner was to Hitler, Beast the Lesser will b2 the Beast.
His two-fold plan (to accomplish his purpose) 13-17
13-15 Supernatural power - Cf. 1K18 – the god who answers by fire, He is God. But, Dt. 13:1-5 - truth over power.
He has the power to give breath to the image/cause it to speak – life/intelligence. Adam was image of God/this is image of the beast.
The demand to worship the image symbolized loyalty to the state, for the authorities, but to the Christians it symbolized apostasy/ idolatry. This will separate out those not loyal to the antichrist.
Satan hates God/seeks to pray you away from Him. He uses whatever will serve his purpose. In the tribulation, Beast the Lesser will exercise supernatural power/convince people to look away from the God of the Bible. Today Satan uses coercion – as in Muslim/Communist countries, scorn – the radical atheists will make you seem like an idiot if you believe in God, the world – tempting us to pleasure/pride – whatever it takes to pry you away.
16-18 Economic policy
The Beast has a political agenda and Beast the Lesser will enforce this political agenda with displays of supernatural power/worldwide economic policy. His economic policy will separate out those not loyal to the beast.
Zbigniew Brzezinski in ‘Foreign Affairs’, Fall 1991: The new order of nations rising out of the end of WWI didn’t result in int’l peace. The order rising out of the end of WWII didn’t result in int’l peace, but in a superpower contest. But now that the cold war is over w/o a hot war, there has been a profound alteration in public views. For the average citizen, the imperatives of consumption are now more important than those of territory or ideology. (I see myself as a consumer above citizen).
Politically, the world is not centralizing, but decentralizing. The New World Order will not be sustained by a one world government, but a global economy eventually manipulated by one man. The politics of consumerism make more sense to people than the politics of territory/ideology.
His mark 18
His economic policy will be enforced by means of a mark each person is to receive on their forehead or right hand.
His # = man falling short of God. #, not identity. Other say that the mark is that of a man, not mankind. Though we can’t w/ any certainty determine what the mark of the beast will be, it will be very apparent at that time -
#1 It will be after the rapture of the church
#2 It will be after the antichrist demands worship
#3 It will be at the instigation of the false prophet
#4 It will bestow an economic privilege
* Many suggest that we are approaching the time when the key to all transactions will be a computer chip imbedded in the hand. If it comes to this, should you as a Christian allow this to happen to you? Why not? It is not the mark of the beast unless all these other factors are present – I won’t be killed if I opt out.
#5 It will include the name of the antichrist and be an act of worship.
* On every contract of buying or selling there was a mark, a seal, and on the seal the name of the emperor and the date. If the mark is connected with this, it means that those who worship the beast accept his authority.
* All coinage had the head and inscription of the emperor stamped upon it, to show that it was his property. If the mark is connected with this, it again means that those to bear it are the property of the beast.
* When a man had burned his pinch of incense to Caesar, he was given a certificate to say that he had done so. The mark of the beast may be the certificate of worship, which a Christian could obtain only at the cost of denying his faith. 20
#6 It will be accompanied by a heavenly warning – 14:9-11
Father/Son/Holy Spirit are mimicked by Satan/antichrist/false prophet.
The dragon is a poor imitation of God the Father.
The beast is a poor imitation of God the Son w/ his resurrection that really is more of a recovery.
Beast the Lesser is a poor imitation of God the Spirit.
Unlike the false prophet, the Holy Spirit will never force you to love Jesus/bow your knee to Him.
