Tribulation Saints
Revelation 7:9-17
This is the same group we saw in 6:9-11 - crying out for judgment/ vengeance. In 6:9 they were under altar where the priest pours the blood of the sacrificial victim. They are in a place where they remember their brutal death. What they had experienced was the victory of evil over good/Satan over saints (cf. 13:7). In heaven, but in place of death/cry out.
This is strange to me - the memory of their martyrdom follows them n2 heaven/they cry out for vengeance. Though a good thing has happened to them – they are in heaven, they are consumed by a bad thing that has happened to them – martyrdom. This is very common. Most of ur Christians – convicted of sin/confessed Jesus/consecrated your life to God, but it’s easy 2b more focused on what has been done 2u by man than done 4u by God.
Christ has conquered sin/devil/grave/you. He’s done marvelous things 4u, but ur consumed w/ what so-and-so did 2u - you haven’t been invited somewhere for the holidays/your ex is trying to inflict as much damage as possible/you were passed over for a promotion at work – and this devours you. UR more consumed by what people have done 2u than by what Christ has done 4u. We’re just like these in C6 – in Christ/yet not in place of rest.
Why does the memory of their martyrdom follow them n2 heaven and they cry out for vengeance? I don’t know exactly, but please note where they are. In C6 – under the altar. In C7 – b4 the throne. In C6 – in heaven, but not in the place of fullness. In C7– they’ve moved on. They’re no longer in a place of blood/ defeat, but in a place of victory/glory. In 7:9 they are not under the altar, but b4 the throne – they’ve moved on – from place of heaviness/bitter memories/crying for vengeance/cursing enemies. In 6:11 they were given a white robe and in 7:9 they are wearing them - moved out of the place of heaviness/n2 place of hallelujah.
B4 being given a white robe they were in a place of remembering what had happened to them/crying out for judgment/earth focused. Though in heaven, not in a place of rest/not in a place of seeing God in all His glory. The white robe brought them n2a place of glory/rest.
Where are you? RU under the altar rehearsing all the terrible things that have happened 2u, or rub4 the throne of God? Have you moved on? Grieving widow of three years @ Christian Chapel. No, you’re not in heaven, but you’ve been cleansed by Christ and there is a throne 4u even today – you can move on. The blood of Jesus brought them n2 the place of rest/peace/full vision of God – do the same 4u.
…let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Take hold of the help/grace of God – He desires to move you on to His throne. The blood of Christ opens the door into the next thing that God has for you. Israel out of Egypt by the blood – they left behind what had bound them.
They went from calling for vengeance to calling out the victory of God. They left vengeance in the hands of God. I wonder if any said, “No, I want to stay here/rehearse the wrong done to me/call for vengeance. I don’t want to move on.” I have met those who don’t want to move on. They would rather talk 2u about the thorns in their life than talk to God on His throne/won’t leave judgment in the hands of God – they are stuck under the altar. They are more captivated by their blood that was shed than the blood of the Lamb shed for them.
E-mail message: through oversight of Federal Gov’t, there is unclaimed $$ due you… There are storerooms in heaven of unclaimed help/ blessings. Have you moved on to the throne of God? The robe brought them b4 throne of God and restlessness became rest
Heaven isn’t a black tie affair – it’s a white robe affair. You need a white robe in heaven. Macy’s doesn’t have it/not sold in better stores/you can’t make it.
The robes in v14 are made white in the blood of the Lamb. Heaven isn’t heaven w/o the cleansing blood of Jesus.
Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool. Isaiah 1:18
The blood of the Lamb
All that we have learned about physiology in recent years confirms the accuracy of the linking of blood and cleansing. If you want to truly grasp the function of blood as a cleansing experience – here’s a simple experiment. Find a blood pressure test kit and wrap the cuff around your upper arm and pump it to the point where it cuts off the blood flow. Initially, your arm will feel an uncomfortable tightness beneath the cuff. Now – perform any task w/ your cuffed arm: flex your fingers in fast succession ten times/cut with scissors/drive a nail into wood with a hammer. The 1st few movements seem quite normal as the muscles respond as they should. Then you feel a slight weakness/then a flash of pain/then your muscles cramp violently – if you force yourself to continue, you will cry out in agony. Finally, you can’t continue. When you release the air from the cuff/blood rushes into your aching arm/wonderful soothing sense of relief floods your muscles. Your muscles begin to move freely/the soreness vanishes. Physiologically, you have just experienced the cleansing power of blood.
The pain came because you forced your muscles to keep working when there was no blood supply. As muscles convert oxygen into energy, they produce certain waste products (metabolites) that normally would have been washed away instantly in the bloodstream. Because the bloodstream had been restricted, the waste products built up and accumulated in the cells. They were not cleansed by the flowing blood and therefore, in a few minutes, you felt the agonizing pain of toxins.
Blood reveals the perfect picture of sin and forgiveness. Sin is a blockage, a paralyzing toxin that restricts the realization of our full humanity. Just as blood cleanses the body of harmful metabolites, forgiveness through Christ’s blood cleanses the waste products, sins, that impede true health. IN HIS IMAGE – Brand pp74-78
